German banking law is not uniformly codified, but is regulated in various laws. Money Laundering Act, Pfandbrief Act, Cheque Act, Bill of Exchange Act, Savings Banks Act, Building Societies Act, Federal Banking Act, GERMAN CIVIL CODE (German Civil Code), Banking Actand others. Of particular importance in contracts with banks and savings banks are the General Terms and Conditions (GTC) for credit institutions (AGB-Banken or AGB-Sparkassen). General terms and conditions must fulfil the legal requirements in accordance with §§ 305 ff. BGB and often contain ineffective clauses. In the case of ineffective clauses, various claims may arise for bank customers.
